Google Apps for your domain - not quite right yet

Google AppsI setup Google Apps for one of my domains as a trial a couple of weeks ago, in the hope that it would live up to my expectations and I would be able to move all my emails across.

I really like the idea of having my data 'in the cloud', especially since my hard drive failed a couple of weeks ago and I realised how sorry the state of my backups was. Luckily just the partition table was corrupt and I was able to get most of my data off.

I setup the MX records on my domain without too much trouble (didn't manage to get the CNAME records setup, but that's not a big deal), and I've got Outlook checking my mail using IMAP. I'm fairly happy with the email setup at the moment, I'll have to have a closer look at how imitate my GTD habits in Outlook 2007 that work with POP3 but not IMAP, but seeing this isn't my primary email account, and I don't get a large number of emails through it, it hasn't been a high priority.

I also setup Google Docs and Google Calender, which have underwhelmed me a little. I was hoping that I could setup a calender that everyone in my domain (I have a couple of writers who I've given email addresses to) could share, but I haven't seen this as an option yet. The same thing happens with Google Docs, I need to manually share all the documents with other users, which is a pain in the ass.

There are also some pretty annoying bugs that occur when you switch between the different services (Start Page > Email or Email > Docs etc), especially if you have other Google accounts that you log into (I login to heaps of different Google AdWords and Analytics accounts at work).

I wonder if the Premier Edition would work better. I'm more than happy to pay the $50 a year fee / user if it means I can collaborate with the other writers and have a system that works, but I doubt it will be much better.

I'll keep trying it out, but won't be moving any other accounts over just yet.

Have you had any experience with Google Apps for your domain? Any tips that you can share that would solve a few of the problems that I've just mentioned?
